В интервью журналу PC Zone главный продюсер Blizzard Шейн Дабири решил рассказать, почему, по его мнению, конкурентам не удается сместить с трона World of Warcraft. Он считает, что из-за успешности детища Blizzard, слишком многие просто пытаются его скопировать с плачевными результатами. Шейн считает это неправильным шагом, так как "люди, которые инвестировали свое время в WoW, не захотят повторять то же самое в другом проекте". Это можно понять и как выпад в сторону главного конкурента - Star Wars: The Old Republic, разработчики которого, как и другие их коллеги, не гнушаются перенимать наработки Blizzard.
Шей даже дает советы конкурентам в том, как можно достичь успеха на рынке: разработчикам стоит создавать "инновационные новые ММО", так как игроки хотят "нечто совершенно нового и отличного" от World of Warcraft. Интересно, что примером такого подхода Шейн называет City of Heroes. Еще бы, если бы у всех конкурирующих продуктов было столько подписчиков, сколько у небольшого проекта NCSoft, разработчикам World of Warcrarft не о чем было бы беспокоиться.

MMO developers trying to copy World of Warcraft is "definitely not the right move," says Blizzard lead producer, Shane Dabiri.
Speaking in the latest issue of PC Zone magazine, Dabiri argues that trying to emulate the success of his company"s MMO isn"t what gamers are looking for, and devs should try to create "innovative new MMOs". In other words, stay away from Blizzard"s profits, you thieves.
"There are a lot of people that try to emulate World of Warcraft - and as flattering as that is our end it"s definitely not the right move," he says.
"I know that World of Warcraft is very successful, and so people think if they were to make another game just like it they could somehow capture that audience. However, I don"t think that"s what players are looking for.
